Motivation for Creating the ARMM Services Weld Tracking App

The impetus for developing the ARMM Services Weld Tracking App arose from observing significant gaps in the management of pressure piping system integrity within the construction sector. Traditional methods for overseeing QA/QC processes often resulted in disjointed data management, miscommunication, and a lag in detecting and responding to quality-related issues. Pressure piping projects typically involve multiple stakeholders, numerous materials, and complex welding procedures, which can be challenging to monitor and manage effectively using paper-based or ad-hoc digital systems.

Our drive to introduce the app was fueled by four primary motivations:

For the more tech savvy amongst you here is a brief overview of the architechture we decided to go with when building the Weld Tracking App.

In designing the architecture of the Weld Tracking App, we decided to incorporate a blend of modern and robust technologies that offer a seamless, scalable, and secure experience. Here's a brief outline of the chosen tech stack and how each component contributes to the app's architecture:

  1. F# / TypeScript: The core logic of the app is built using F#, a functional-first, strongly-typed language that provides high reliability and performance, ideal for the complex data manipulation needed in QA/QC processes. TypeScript, a superset of JavaScript that includes static types, is used to enforce strong typing on the client side in the browser for robust application behavior and enhanced developer productivity.

  2. Azure Functions / Table Storage / Queues: Azure Functions allow the app to respond to various events and triggers in a serverless manner, enabling a scalable and cost-effective back-end. Azure Table Storage is utilized for its NoSQL capabilities, serving as an efficient storage solution for structured data. Azure Queues facilitate communication between different parts of the application, ensuring reliable processing and handling of tasks and workflows.
